HS GameTime player of the week
It may have been a light schedule of games to usher in a new high school football season last Friday with all the action at the Beach but there were some outstanding individual efforts on the field, including one which stood out above the rest.
Our first HS GameTime player of the week honors goes to Ocean Lakes quarterback Marcus Davis, who threw three touchdowns and ran for two more in a convincing 41-9 opening night rout of Princess Anne. Davis finished a masterful performance with 146 yards rushing on just eight carries while completing six of 11 tosses for 100 yards and no turnovers.
Davis, who is a highly sought after college recruit at both defensive back and wide receiver, had taken some snaps behind center as a freshman before moving to receiver while seeing some time at quarterback in his sophomore and junior seasons. But when Dan Pitts suffered a season ending knee injury, Davis returned as full time signalcaller for the Dolphins.
Davis made a splash in his season debut right from the start, connecting with Randall Dunn on a pair of scoring strikes including a 54 yarder. Davis' first TD run came from 36 yards early in the second quarter as the Dolphins scored on its first four possessions of the game to open up the season on a winning note.
