Friday Wrap 9/28

For the second week in a row we were all excited about a district showdown with two undefeated teams. For the second week in a row we had a blowout instead of a close game. #3 Salem was visiting #7 Ocean Lakes. Kevin Whaley did his usual thing with 137 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Princess Anne Field Hockey

The Lady Cavaliers of Princess Anne are dreaming of their 4th state field hockey championship since 2000. They're off to a pretty good start. Right now they have a perfect record and snapped a 31 game win streak of the defending state champs from Cox.

Friday Wrap 9/21

We had our cameras stretched out from Chesapeake and Norfolk to Suffolk, Smithfield, York County and Williamsburg. You can catch extended hilites of these games in the video section of our home page. (look to your right)
We were thinking that our game of the week had potential to be a thriller. I supposed if you like #2 Oscar Smith you were indeed thrilled by their 47-0 win over #7 ranked Great Bridge.

A Head Start

The Beach District got the football weekend started a day early with a full slate of games on Thursday night. I got my first chance this year to watch E.J. Manuel the nationally rated quarterback from Bayside. He did not disappoint.
The Marlins with their high powered passing offense were hosting Kellam who makes a habit of running all over their opponents.

Green Run Football: A Stallion Rebirth?

These aren't your father's Green Run Stallions! Once upon a time, Matt Darby, Keith Goganious, and Plaxico Burress gave Green Run football, respectability before their NFL careers blossomed. Then the Dark Ages came around the program....

Warrior commitment

Nansemond River High School is sending their standout basketball star to Old Dominion University. Nick Wright has given his verbal commitment to ODU for 2008.
Here are the numbers. Wright is 6'7", 205 lbs. Last year he averaged 13 points and 14 rebounds a game. Add 6 blocks a game to that and you have a player who is a force in the paint.

Outback Cup

There are a couple of reasons to get to the Bethel / Phoebus game early this Friday. First of all it's a great rivalry and could be standing room only. More importantly they're preparing for the first ever Outback Cup. The Outback Cup is a fund raiser for both schools' athletic departments. Outback Steakhouse is setting up shop early to sell and serve food to fans. Gates open at 5, an hour earlier than normal. Pre sales for food an

Grassfield Football: Starting From Scratch

There aren't any starter kit instructions that go with building a high school football program from its infancy. That's the task ahead for Grassfield High head coach, Martin Asprey. The Grizzlies opened up with a 28-0 loss to Nansemond River. That's the bad. The good; they were only trailing 7-0 going into the 4th. Still, many don't think the Grizzlies won't be much of a factor in the Southeastern District, but don't tell Asprey that
