Friday Night Wrap 10/26
Someone give Allen Iverson a call. Bethel High School is calling back the glory years once again. Back in the day the big event was the showdown with Hampton High. Here it is 2007 and it's like Iverson's championship season of 1992 all over again.
The Bruins look like a contender once again. They took Phoebus to the limit earlier this year and on Friday night got the best of Hampton 7-0. Check out the extended hilites of this and the other games mentioned here on the video section of the HSgametime home page. You'll see the Bruins stout defense and just enough offense as they are going to be back in the playoffs for the first time since 1996. In the video you'll see former head coach Dennis Kozlowski honored at halftime. He took the Bruins to their three state championships including the last one with Iverson.
Another key game was at the Beach where two unbeatens went at it. Surprising Green Run and Salem were both 8-0. The Sun Devils are still unbeaten. Their defense was relentless in shutting down the Stallions. As usual Kevin Whaley came up big. He rushed 30 times for 229 yards and a touchdown. Salem clinched the Beach District title with a 20-0 win but still watch for Green Run in the playoffs.
Also at the Beach, Kellam was thinking playoffs. They might have to think a little harder. For the second year in a row Tallwood upset the Knights. Please excuse some darkness in the video. There was a bank of lights that was out at Tallwood. The final was Tallwood 27 Kellam 21.
Booker T. Washington could have made the playoffs had they won their last two games. You'll see the Bookers with a first half touchdown but that was it. Churchland shut down the home team 8-6. Given the conditions, most of the scores around town were low.
Our last set of hilites came from Indian River where scoring wasn't a problem. By the time we got there they already had a huge lead. You can see their last touchdown in a 46-6 win over Lakeland. With the playoff field expanded to eight teams, the Braves are looking good.
