Eastern Region field hockey final
Here is some friendly advice for teams participating in next week's state field hockey tournament in Virginia Beach....Beware of the Falcons! Once again, the Cox Falcons are showing why they are the most dominant school in state prep field hockey history, a prime example unfolded in Friday's Eastern Region final against district rival Princess Anne.
Cox scored twice in the first half and did not let up in the second half, adding three more scores in a lopsided 5-0 win over the Cavaliers. Kiley Allosso scored both Falcon goals in the opening thirty minutes and completed the hat trick with her third tally four minutes into the second half. Kelsey Rosenmeier and Taylor Rhea added second half goals as Cox outshot P.A. 18-2. The Falcons improve their season record to 20-2 while clinching their second straight region crown and 16th overall in school history as they pursue a 15th state title starting next Thursday, November 8. Cox will take on the Northern Region runner-up on field number two at 1pm at the National Training Center while the Cavaliers at 17-3 will face the Northern Region champion on field two at 3pm. All four quarterfinal winners will advance to next Friday's semifinals at 1 and 3pm while the state final is scheduled for Saturday, November 11 at 1pm. If you want to know about Cox and Princess Anne's chances for a state title, consider this:: since the Virginia High School League started a state field hockey tournament back in 1977, Beach District schools have won 21 of 30 times and there has been at least one Beach team in the finals 19 of the last 20 years. Plus, the tournament takes place in our own backyard, the National Training Center in Virginia Beach....talk about homefield advantage.
