REGIONAL SEMI-FINALS
Perhaps our favorite hilite on this Friday was the coach of the defending state champions getting more than a little heated on the sidelines. He need not worry, his Phantoms are moving on. Two other undefeated teams advanced in Group AAA and then Indian River pulled off the one upset on the night.
Check out the hilites of all the games in the video section of our homepage. You'll see Phoebus Head Coach Bill Dee getting a little carried away on the sidelines. He was unhappy with the officials. He also was probably down a bit when Tron Martinez scored the first points of the game for Hampton. Not to worry. The Phantoms went balanced in the first half. Tajh Boyd threw a couple of touchdowns to Darius McMillan. In the second half Shawne Alston controlled it on the ground. The Phantoms won 21-6 and have now won 19 games in a row.
Phoebus will be playing the surprise team of the postseason next. In our hilites, you'll watch Indian River coach "Cadillac" Harris return to his old stomping ground at Green Run. As the #7 seed the Braves upset #2 Lake Taylor last week. Their defense did in #2 Green Run this time around. Watch Dominic Bethea score the only touchdown of the game, a 6-0 Indian River win.
At Oscar Smith, the undefeated Tigers dominated their game with Bethel. We gave their defense some extra props in the hilites. But you can't forget those great wide receivers at Oscar Smith. Philip Sims threw for three touchdowns. Both Todd Harrelson and Kerry Boykins had acrobatic TD catches . Perry Jones ran for three short scores in a 39-3 Tigers win.
We've been waiting all year for the Oscar Smith vs. Salem showdown. We're going to get it, but Western Branch didn't go down without a fight. The Bruins scored the first two touchdowns of the game. But, the Sun Devils have a lot of weapons. Keep focused on our hilites and you'll see one long Salem touchdown after another. They won 49-31.
Lafayette, Poquoson, and Surry all advanced. Hopefully we can get a camera your way next week. Congrats to Isle of Wight. They beat Broadwater 28-14 to win the VIS Division III state championship.
