Eastern Region basketball semis night one

It was a battle of the Eastern District versus the Peninsula on the first night of basketball's Eastern Region semifinals at Churchland High in Portsmouth on Thursday. In the first game, the Wilson Lady Presidents could not contain a fierce storm in the form of the Heritage Lady Hurricanes while the nightcap kept fans glued to their seats as Bethel had to work overtime to hold off an upset bid from Norcom.

Norfolk Collegiate's She'la White is a groundbreaker. She becomes the first player from Hampton Roads ever named to play in the McDonald's All American girls basketball game.

Great Bridge wins its 18th straight region wrestling title

An annual rite of winter continues as once again, a local wrestling power adds another championship to its trophy case. For the 18th consecutive year, the Great Bridge Wildcats took advantage of home mat advantage, if you will, over at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake to capture the Eastern Region title but it was not easy.
