State High School Semi-Finals

Hampton Roads got into two of the three state finals in high school basketball today in Richmond. Bethel's boys team won, while only one of the two girls teams made it. Heritage got in, but Princess Anne got denied and could lose their coach in the process.

Bethel's, Bill Weaver led the way with 22 points; Mbai Olivier added 19 to go with 13 rebounds as the Bruins beat John Marshall 65-55. They'll be going after their first state title since 1993 when they take on T.C. Williams. On the girls side, Heritage reaches the state final for the first time ever as they defeated L.C. Bird 57-42. Sonia Johnson led the Hurricanes with 15 points. They'll take on Forest Park who eliminated Princess Anne 51-42. The Cavaliers got some possible bad news after the game when head coach, Darnell Dozier hinted he's "80 percent" sure he's done coaching at Princess Anne. If that were the case, he'd leave a program after 13 years and two state championships, but for now, he's pondering his future.
