Davenport a Mountaineer

Once again, the pipeline which connects West Virginia University and the vast talent resources of Hampton Roads prep football has landed another top recruit from one of the top area football powers.

Defensive lineman Dominik Davenport, one of the key components of a very powerful Phoebus defense, has committed to play football at West Virginia after a visit to the Morgantown campus this past weekend. Davenport joins fellow Phantom Tajh Boyd, who gave his committment to WVU back in March.
At 6-foot-1 and 265 pounds, Davenport is a menace to opposing teams. He recorded 124 tackles during Phoebus' run to the Group AAA Division 5 state semifinals this past season. Davenport is expected to play on the defensive line at WVU after starring as a two-way lineman for coach Bill Dee's Phantoms. In fact, Mountaineer coaches told Davenport he could play on the interior side of the line, either tackle or nose tackle, while other schools who were interested in his services had him pegged for either linebacker or defensive end.
West Virginia assistant coach Chris Beatty, former Landstown head coach and Hampton University assistant, was instrumental in landing Davenport and adding to an already impressive cast of area players set to suit up for the Mountaineers. In addition to landing Davenport and Boyd, WVU are expected to land Great Bridge wide receiver Logan Heastie.
