Eastern Region boys soccer final

Cox High School was looking to pull off soccer's version of a daily double in Friday's region finals at Powhatan Field. Early in the evening, the Lady Falcons held off district rival First Colonial to win the region title. Now it was up to the boys soccer squad against Peninsula power Kecoughtan.

But the Warriors grabbed the early momentum in the game's opening half. Karl Kummer's goal gave Kecoughtan an early 1-0 lead but the Falcons got the equalizer late in the half as Caleb Thomas scores to tie the game at 1-1 at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Falcons, Ryan Oakes' shot bounced inside the goalpost and rolled right into the net for a 2-1 Cox lead. Minutes later, Thomas scored his second goal of the game to extend the Falcons advantage to 3-1 and Will Martin's goal late in the contest provided Cox with all it needed to secure the Eastern Region crown by a 4-1 score.
The Falcons will host the Northern Region runner-up next Tuesday, either at Powhatan Field or the Virginia Beach Sportsplex with the time to be announced.
Kecoughtan will head up north to face the Northern Region winner next Tuesday as well.
