Eastern Region girls soccer final

Cox and First Colonial were already guaranteed spots in next week's Group AAA state girls soccer tournament. The only questions going into Friday's Eastern Region final at Powhatan Field, who will be hosting a quarterfinal and who will be traveling.

It was the fourth meeting of the season between these two Beach District powers with Cox holding a 2-1 advantage.Just like Wednesday's semifinal win against Hickory, the Lady Falcons got off to a quick first half start.
Two minutes into the game, Jessica McNamara's shot looked like it went in off the top of the goalpost and past the line for the goal, originally the first score was credited to Kelly Morrison off the rebound but the call would be reversed and the first goal credited to McNamara for a 1-0 Cox lead.
Later in the first half, McNamara's shot would once again bounce off the top post but not past the line and just like the first goal, Morrison is there to put in the rebound and this time, Morrison gets credit for the marker and a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Lady Patriots cut into Cox's lead early in the second half as Lizzy Callahan fed Caitlyn Weems for the goal to make it a 2-1 game. The Lady Falcons restored the two goal advantage minutes later as Emory Camper got the feed and scored off a beautiful play that twsited the F.C. defender to make it a 3-1 game.
Although Megan Simeone got First Colonial back to within a goal late at 3-2, they could not get the equalizer and Cox wins the Eastern Region title, 3-2 the final score.
Cox will host Westfield from the Northern Region in Tuesday's state quarterfinal at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, game time to be determined. Meanhwile, F.C. will face James Robinson, the Northern Region winner, in Fairfax next Tuesday as well.
