Eastern Region girls soccer semifinals

It was a battle between the Beach and Southeastern for a spot in the Eastern Region final on Friday and berths in next week's state tournament. When all was said and done, it was a pair of Beach powers who moved on, one in extra time and the other in convincing fashion.

In the first semifinal, a pair of runners-up, First Colonial from the Beach and Great Bridge from the Southeastern District, battled for almost 94 minutes without either team giving up a goal until sudden death overtime when Megan Simeone launched a shot which eluded the Wildcats goaltender for the only goal of the game to give the Patriots a 1-0 win as F.C. advances to the region title game and next week's state quarterfinals for a second straight year.
The second semifinal featured a pair of district champs, Cox from the Beach and Hickory from the Southeastern. This game was no contest as Emory Camper scored the first of her two goals early in the game for a 1-0 halftime lead, The Lady Falcons added three more goals in the second half to put the game away as Kelly Morrison, Beth McCabe and Camper made it 4-0 before the Hawks scored on a penalty kick late in the second half to make it close but not close enough as Cox moves on to the region final and next week's states with a 4-1 win.
The region final takes place Friday at Powhatan Field starting at 530pm. Both teams should be familiar with one another. Friday's game will be the fourth time these two Beach schools have faed each other this season with Cox hlding a 2-1 advantage.
