Cox names new boys soccer coach
There will be a new era in boys soccer over at Cox High School come next school year as the Falcons have named his new head coach and they did not have to go far in their search.
On Monday, the school announced Scott Mead will direct the Falcons boys soccer team starting in the 2008-09 school year.
Mead has been a faculty member at Cox since 2001 and has spent seven seasons as the team's goalkeeper trainer and top assistant coach.
Mead becomes just the third head boys soccer coach in its 32 year history and takes over for Jim Snodgrass, who stepped down earlier this month after 26 seasons in which the Falcons captured ten Eastern Region titles and ten Beach District crowns. Cox also made a second straight appearance in the Group AAA state soccer tournament this past season.
Mead's resume is impressive:: an Old Dominion University graduate, a "D" license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and an advanced diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He has also coached soccer at both interscholastic and club levels and has also coached the Falcons' Junior Varisty team the past three years. Mead also was a goalkeeper trainer for the Lady Falcons soccer squad in 2002 which swept the district and region titles on their way to the state semifinals.
As Snodgrass' top assistant the past seven seasons, Mead helped lead the Falcons to a 56-7-7 regular season record in Beach District play and 104-28-17 mark overall, so the Falcons boys soccer program should not miss a beat.
First day of practice set for February 23 of 2009.
