Group AA state baseball update

Finally, Poquoson was able to play its rescheduled state baseball semifinal on Thursday as the Islanders hang on to beat Brentsville on the road and secure a state semifinal berth on Friday afternoon.

The Islanders struck first and early, in the top of the second inning, Eric Nixon singled in a run to give the visitors the early 1-0 lead. Nixon added a two run home run in the top of the fourth to increase their advantage to 3-0.
Next inning, Justin Bollinger singled in the Islanders' fourth run and led by four runs after four and half innings.
Brentsville made a comeback late, but too late to overcome Poquoson's lead as the Bay Rivers power moves on after a hard fought 7-6 win.
Poquoson improves its seasonal mark to 19-8 and now will face Alleghany, a 5-4 winner in its quarterfinal over Hidden Valley, in Friday's 1pm state semifinal at Pulaski.
