Phoebus' Alston commits to WVU
Shawne Alston has shown the Peninsula District and the Eastern Region what he can do on the football field last season as a junior. And one year from now, he will get a chance to prove it to the rest of the Big East Conference.
One of the Phantoms' top returning players for the upcoming season, Alston has already made a decision on the college of his choice:: Alston has committed to play for West Virginia.
Alston becomes the third Phoebus player to commit to the Mountaineers, joining quarterback Tajh Boyd and defensive lineman Dominik Davenport, all recruited by former Landstown coach and Hampton University assistant coach Chris Beatty, now a WVU recruiting coordinator.
Alston tore up opposing defenses last season to the tune of 1,684 yards and 26 touchdowns, all while playing with a knee injury.
At 6-foot and 210 pounds, Alston is considered to be more of a power back, but will be a valuable asset to the Mountaineers' ground game come fall 2009.
