State baseball quarterfinals

The road to the state championship in high school baseball continued tonight on state quarterfinal night, a win tonight and you move on to this weekend's state semifinals.

In Group AAA semifinal play, Bethel hosted Chantilly at ODU's Bud Metheny Complex. The Bruins struck first in the opening frame as Kizuku Scott's RBI single made it a 1-0 game.
After Chantilly tied the game on a third inning solo home run, the Bruins re-take the lead in the fourth, scoring two runs on wild pitches for a 3-1 lead. Bethel added what would be the eventual game winner in the sixth off a Jamie Scott single as the Bruins hold off a late Chantilly rally for a 4-3 win to advance to Friday's state semifinal matchup against James River, that contest scheduled for 3pm at Westfield High School.
Indian River will have to wait one more day to see if they can keep their state title dream alive. Tuesday's game at Lake Braddock was suspended in the top of the fourth inning with the Braves leading 6-3.
Indian River trailed 6-0 in the fourth when David Clary's three-run home run drew them to within 6-3. A steady rain forced officials to call the game for the night and it will resume Wednesday at 4pm at Lake Braddock, which means the Braves will have to travel back up to Northern Virginia to resume the contest with one out in the fourth inning.
In Group AA semifinal play, Poquoson's game at Brentsville was postponed because of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday 5pm at Brentsville.
