State baseball tournament update
Once again, mother nature refused to cooperate with a pair of area schools still hoping to advance to this weekend's state baseball semifinals on Wednesday, leaving for both teams still alive to wait another day to play their respective quarterfinal games.
Indian River's game at Lake Braddock was called yet again on Wednesday after a thunderstorm in the Fairfax area came in an hour before the resumption of the game and officials ruled the field to be unplayable, so, both teams will once again try to resume their quarterfinal game Thursday at 1pm at Waters Field in Vienna, which has an artificial playing turf.
The game will resume with one out in the fourth and the Braves trailing 6-3. The winner of this game will play Colonial Forge in Friday's 7pm state semifinal at Westfield High School, Colonial Forge edged Cosby in its rescheduled quarterfinal game on Wednesday by a final score of 3-2.
In Group AA quarterfinal action, Poquoson's game at Brentsville was once again rained out for a second straight day. It has been rescheduled for Thursday afternoon at 1pm on Brentsville's home field with the winner advancing to play Alleghany in Friday's semifinals.
