State Group AAA baseball update

The Bethel Bruins were hoping to continue their amazing postseason ride in Friday's state semifinal at Westfield High against James River.

The Bruins broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth as Justin Shively drove in the first run with an RBI single for a 1-0 Bethel lead. But James River got the equalizer intheir half of the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.
After seven innings, the game was still tied at 1-1, when in the bottom of the eighth, Austin Stadler hit a game winning solo home run to give the Chesterfield school the 2-1 semifinal win over the Bruins and advance to Saturday's championship game against either Lake Braddock or Colonial Forge.
Bethel, in its first state tournament appearance in school history, ends its season at 21-6.
