State tennis update
We have featured Cox tennis star Ian Fraser on 13 news and had him named as HS GameTime Athlete of the Week this season. Now the junior standout stands two singles matches and two doubles matches away from a pair of state titles.
Fraser, who will pair up with fellow Falcon Cameron Brawley in Friday's boys doubles semifinals, will also be aiming for state success in singles. Fraser moved one step closer to that dream after a win in Thursday's quarterfinal at Jefferson District Park in Falls Church.
The Eastern Region singles champ disposed of his opponent fron the Northern Region 6-4, 6-2 and will face a nationally ranked player from Fairfax in Friday's 9am semifinals.
Fraser and Brawley will face the doubles team from Robinson in a 1pm semifinal.
Brawley saw his chances for a singles title come to an end after a 6-1, 6-0 decision to his opponent from Stonewall Jackson.
In girls singles action, Alex Ritter of First Colonial ran her impressive season mark to 16-0 after her quarterfinal win over her opponent from Osbourn Park 6-3, 6-1 and advances on to face Katie Blow of Mills Godwin in a 9am Friday semifinal in what could be the match of the day. Meanwhile, the season is over for Ocean Lakes' Kathleen Dawson, who lost to her opponent from Loudoun Valley 6-0, 6-2.
The girls doubles semis are also set for Friday afternoon in Falls Church with Faith Atiso and Jenny Lee of Cox versus the doubles team from Langley.
