Eastern District football outlook

Lake Taylor has been a dominant factor in the Eastern District the last three seasons. Expect more of the same when a new season kicks off this week.

The Titans have an impressive 20-1 mark against district opponents, with a 12 game win streak as well. Once again, Lake taylor looks like the team to beat and it is easy to see why.
The defense returns eight starters from a team which was number two in the area in yards allowed while allowing just eight points per game.
On the other side of the ball, seven starters return to an offense featuring a new starting quarterback in Jarred Battle and Boogie McCray leading a balanced running game. One more reason Lake Taylor will be tough to beat, the quality of depth, especially in the running game and at receivers and defensive backs.
If there is one team likely to make an impact from the rest of the Eastern District, it likely will be Maury, which will have a new bench boss in John Quinerly.
The Commodores will have a new signalcaller under center this year in the form of junior Keenan Lambert and joined by his brother Kreighton at wide receiver. Maury's defense will also play a key to their success this season.
The rest of the pack looks as follows::
Norcom will be counting on junior quarterback Deandre Lamb, who threw for over 1,100 yards in 2007. Rashawn Finney will look to make an impact at receiver, while a young offensive line will be tested. The Greyhounds will have a veteran defense which posted three shutouts last season.
Churchland will look to captialize on a six win campaign last year, but the mountain will be hard to climb for the Truckers, especially on defense, where several starters have moved on. Desmond Ware leads the rushing game, while Craig Brooks leads the offense minus a supporting cast.
Expect more speed and more depth from Norview this season. The Pilots will need to get off to a fast start to avoid another losing season.
Booker T. Washington have holes to fill at running back, wide receiver and perhaps at quarterback. Returning starter Desmond Lee's season is in doubt, leaving the starting job up for grabs. The secondary is the strongest asset of the Bookers' defense, while linebacker remains a big question mark.
Curt Brown makes his debut at Granby this fall coming over from Princess Anne. The Comets need to improve on a passing game which only averaged 41 yards a game last season. On defense, Virginia Tech-bound Telvion Clark remains a force at outside linebacker, where he recorded 153 tackles and eight sacks. Expect more of the same from Clark as he leads a solid overall defense this year.
If there is any hope for Wilson, it comes from their running game led by Michael Strobel and Jamel Watkins and an improved Armonte Hart at quarterback. A better offense will mean more rest for an overworked defense. The Presidents have only one win in the last two seasons.
