Eastern Region Golf final round

This year's Eastern Region golf title would be decided between a pair of golfers on the final hole of the final day of regional play at Ford's Colony in Williamsburg on Tuesday.

Cox senior Brinson Paolini, who earlier in the day was named to the HP Scholastic Junior All-American golf team for a second straight year, saw his slim one shot advantage over Hickory's John Dawson dwindle on the 18th hole.
Dawson birdied 18 to finish at even par 72 and tie Paolini, who shot one over 73 in both regional rounds, for the individual crown at two over par 146 to lead an impressive group of 12 who will represent the Eastern Region in this year's Group AAA state tournament October 20-21 at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian in the Richmond area.
Kellam senior Wade Wawner, who was tied with Dawson for second one shot behind Paolini after Monday's opening round, settled for a 73 and finished one shot back at 147.
Among the 12 who qualified for states is Hickory's Lauren Coughlin, who finished 11 shots back at 157.
In the team competition, Kellam captured the region crown over Beach rival Cox by 11 shots as both schools qualified for the state tournament.
