State girls volleyball update
The state girls volleyball tournament got underway Tuesday night as one Beach school made a successful debut while another Beach school saw its season come to an end.
Eastern Region champ Landstown improved its overall record to 21-4 after beating visiting Loudoun Valley in three sets 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21.
The Lady Eagles earn their first state volleyball berth thanks to a balanced attack from team leader Vanessa Rodriguez, Jenny Pry and Hannah Hugeback.
With the win, Landstown will face Northern Region runner-up Westfield in Thursday's state semifinal at VCU's Siegel Center in Richmond at 7pm.
However, the season ended for Cox. The region runner-up Lady Falcons, making a fifth straight state appearance, lost a hard fought four set match on the road against Albemarle in Charlottesville 25-21, 18-25, 25-16 and 25-16.
Cox's season ends at 18-9.
