Barnes Blogs about district excitement

It's getting to be the middle of October, the weather forecasters are hinting cooler weather could be coming, and it's time to start thinking playoffs.
Playoffs? Did Barnes really say playoffs? Playoffs.
Yes, it's already time to start looking toward November. And several teams have an early head start, like LBJ, Manor, McCallum, Stony Point, Leander, Lake Travis, Connally, Hendrickson, Hays, Austin, and Bowie... just to name a few. Great starts in district play, but most of them can't count their chickens... yet.
Yes, lots of teams make the playoffs in the high school ranks. This isn't the "old" days, when only the district champion made it. For some districts, you finish next to last, and you're still in! But it's the excitement of talking about the playoffs that gets people pumped up this time of the year. Except, of course, for the small districts. But that's another topic in my video blog.
Nothing wrong with thinking about the playoffs. I put together my first draft of possible playoff match-ups yesterday. Yes, that draft will be adjusted once or twice a week over the next month as we get closer and the district races become even clearer. But we've got tie-breakers to think about... possible rematches from last year... home and home playoff agreements to consider... and state championship dreams that are still alive.
Playoffs? Yes, playoffs. Go ahead and start thinking about them, talking about them, and dreaming about them. They're just around the corner.
