Ira Cronin | Catholic and Olympic: Who has the edge?

I received the early preview of our Game of the Week on Wednesday as I dropped by the practices of both Charlotte Catholic and Olympic and I can tell you we are in for quite a game! Both Coach Jim Oddo and Coach Barry Shuford talked about last year's hard fought game.

Both teams looked crisp in practice and both coaches seem to have a little fire in their eyes when I asked about Friday night's game. There is no question that both coaches are appreciative of the cooler weather in the Carolina's this week. I can say I was as well as there is nothing I enjoy more than football in the fall once the cool weather rolls around.

While Coach Oddo says that Olympic may have the edge this year because they are returning more players from last year's team than he is, Coach Shuford told me it can be a good news or bad news kind of deal, quoting Lou Holtz, he said, "The good news is I have 21 players returning from last year's team, the bad news is I am returning 21 players from last year's." It's a funny joke and a good point, last year the Trojans were 4-8.

We'll find out who has the edge this Friday night in our game of the week!

Blog you later.

This contest between Olympic and Catholic would have been a much different contest on a dry field. Also since that game Olympic has discovered a very potent running game by moving Brandon Rickett from H-Back to Running back. Since this game Brandon has rushed for an avg. of 208 yrds/gm. Brandon is also on the verge of 1500 rushing yrds in the regular season. Brandon is the sleeper prospect of this '08 season. Someone needs to notice.
