Ira Cronin | A dream game in the rain

When I played high school football, my dream was to play in a slippery rain game. I was never granted that dream, because in Albuquerque our games were played on artificial turf so even in the rain, we had pretty good footing.
On Friday night I stood on the sidelines at Keffer field watching Charlotte Catholic and Olympic play my dream game. Yes, the rain played a part in the outcome of the game, but I had fun simply watching both teams compete their hardest on a wet and slippery field.
I admire everyone, including the officials who braved the conditions to get the job done. I was wearing my golf rain suit, and I was miserable standing on the sidelines. Now usually I walk up and down the sidelines, but one trip through the quagmire that was the bench area for Catholic and my shoes and socks were soaking wet. You know what they say, wet hands, wet feet, and you're miserable whether the rest of you is dry or not.
I was ready to leave at half time, while the players, the coaches, the officials, and our photographer Andrew Phillips all stayed and stuck it out in the second half, so to them I give major props.
For the rest of the sissy teams who didn't play Friday night because of a few rain drops (just Kidding) we'll look forward to your games, and another busy week, next week.
Stay tuned for my "Ira picks up the camera again" blog... that's coming up next week!
