Let's start at looking at some teams that have been surprising so far this season.
24-4A
El Campo starting off winning is not a surprise; however, they have a scoring difference of 108-17. That is surprising.
Anthony Terrell has been incredible for them this year.
Bay City - the Black Cats are back, and have played well. Their win this past week over Brenham was unthinkable in the pre-season.
18-4A
Livingston- they have hurt some teams this year with total points 128 vs. 32 scored upon. The competition has not been that strong, but still there are some solid victories there and the points scored is unreal.
24-5A
Clear Lake and Brazoswood have started off strong, but the real story is the re-emergence of Galveston Ball.
Ron Holmes is making a serious run for coach of the year.
22-5A
North Shore has shaken off a rough off-season to start off strong and look like they will dominate once again.
They have their swagger back and that is bad news for the rest of the teams they will play.
19-5A
Northbrook – OK, they have played weak competition, but you get the Uri Geller award if you thought before the season they would be 3-0 at this point.
17-5A
Langham Creek and Strake Jesuit. Strake is doing it with some good old-fashioned tough defense, like we said in the off-season, their defense will be special.
Meanwhile Langham Creek and Max Jenkins have lit up the scoreboard, is TILT a score?
16-5A
Spring - the Lions are roaring early and have put together some nice wins with a loss to state ranked Smithson Valley the only blemish.
Coach Karras is in fine form this season along with quarterback Kenrick McNeal and don't forget about Kurtis Shaw at running back.
Back to Galveston Ball, it has been quite a long time until I have seen or felt that Galveston Ball had any reason to be cocky and have "swagger.”
Well folks, they came out hard against Channelview and put a hurt to them, C'View did not back down but GBall was physical all day long.
They are acting like they are going places this year and that is half the fight, believing you are good. Watch out for them they are looking real good early.
Here are some games to watch this week.
Thursday - Pearland vs. Clear Lake or Yates vs. Austin
Friday - Lamar Consolidated vs. College Park
Saturday - Alief Taylor vs. Katy and Rosenberg Terry vs. Conroe.
