Fever pitch for area high school teams

Baseball season is wrapping up and I have been to tons of games, and I have seen some amazing games and some stunning performances. It is true that everybody loves the "LONGBALL", but a dominate pitching performance plus good defense is what truly wins games.
Pitching will either make or break your team; John Dziedzic, of Atascocita and Katy's Keafer Nuncio have shown some serious skills off the mound this year.

Nuncio is a power pitcher with definite strike out capability. Nuncio has impressed people all year with his pitching performances, and getting looked at by several NCAA Division 1 schools.
Dziedzic is a left-hander who will get hitters to bite on his change up or his nasty curve ball.

Two of the most complete players I have seen this year are Klein Oak's shortstop Scott Arthur, and Westsides' Michael Goodnight.

The game that showed off Scott Arthur's skills was Klein vs. Klein Oak, where Scott went four-for-four and defensively led his team. His range and mobility at the shortstop position allows him to get to anything hit his way. Scott's backhanded grabs mixed with the "Derek Jeter jump throw", were Sports Center worthy. His arm strength from deep in the hole is impressive.

Michael Goodnight has showed his talents all year in both football and baseball. Many of you may know him as the quarterback for the Westside Wolves, and others may know him as the standout baseball player who can play almost any position. Where as, I have had the pleasure of seeing him shine, both in gridiron football and on the baseball diamond.
At the baseball game I attended, Goodnight was the starting pitcher and recorded 8 strike outs in five innings verse Lamar. When Goodnight left the mound, he moved to his other position, first base where he finished out the game, he is also a threat in the batters box.
Next year he will be playing at the University of Houston.

Last nights game (Tuesday) at Taylor was an exciting one. Taylor was playing small ball advancing runners with bunts and steals, while Cinco Ranch got most of their runs on a long bomb hit by their catcher, Johnson Miller.
Pitching became an issue late in the game, when Cinco Ranch's pitcher became fatigued and had problems locating his pitches. The score was tied at five all in the sixth inning with the bases loaded, when pinch hitter Taylor Schubert hit a deep sacrifice fly that scored the runner from third, to take the lead; when the relief pitcher came in to walk in the seventh and final inning, which gave Taylor a 7-5 victory, which split the series.

TONIGHT's GAME
Tonight I am going to the Contemporary Life Center for an HISD district double-header. The early game starts at 4 p.m. with Chavez squaring off against Milby. The second game starts at 7 p.m. and pits Sam Houston verse Lamar, who has been playing really well.
The first game will be a real toss up, where anyone could win; but for the second game, I am going out on a limb and guessing that Lamar, who has been hot as of late, is going to take with one.

Let me know of any players YOU think are worth watching, or any match ups that YOU think I should not miss.
