It's the best time of the year!!!

I have to say this is one of my favorite times of year. As the weather gets colder the high school sports action HEATS up.
Let's start with Volleyball, which is coming to its end this weekend. Houston is represented by four teams in the Tournament; Clear Creek, Magnolia, Bellville and Wallis Brazos.
Clear Creek has dominated all year at the 5A level, and after beating Fort Bend Travis in three games, hopefully their momentum will carry them into and through the tournament.

Football playoffs are entering in their second week of action and the match ups just keep getting better.

On Thursday I went to the 3A match up of Sealy vs. Needville. Sealy took it to Needville early and came away with a nice first round victory. Sealy had a great running back and their defense was making crucial plays to keep the ball in their hands.

Friday's match up was the first round repeat of Woodlands vs. Westfield out at Pridgeon Stadium.
Westfield started off the game with an interception for a touchdown, but that would be their only points as they lose 24-6.
The Woodlands continues on in the playoffs in their second round match up against Round Rock Stony point.

Saturday took me to Tully Stadium for the Katy vs. Stratford match up. The reigning state champion Katy tigers tore up the Spartans of Stratford 42-7.
Stratford could not move the ball to save their lives as the Tiger defense caused repeated turnovers and punts.
The Tigers impressed me with their performance. Katy is in full stride sprinting in hopes of another state title, and believe it or not, isn't favored to win it. I guess it's the first time the Tigers have been underdogs in the whole scheme of things.

FINALLY..... Basketball season is starting, for both men and women.
It's a full fledged fight in 5A to claim local dominance, while Yates sits atop the 4A rankings.

Has there been any talk about what's going on with the Aldine Nimitz football program

The Nimitz Cougars went 3-6 (1-5 district) this season which was a big difference from last season. I guess in “Man Law” you could say a “rebuilding” year.

Their stand out player offensively would have to be their running back Josh Huff, who racked up 500 total yard of offense.
On the ground, he rushed for 328 yards and 3 touchdowns on 61 carries, while catching three passes for 182 yards and 2 more touchdowns.

Nimitz lost a lot of close games this year and if they have a good sophomore and junior class, hopefully they can rebuild their program.
