Comments from the Clear Creek-Amarillo match

Scott Simonds, Clear Creek
Obviously they've been here before and we have not. I don't know exactly how many of their girls have been here before, but some of them have for sure. Being back-to-back state champs they have some experience in that situation. Bottom line is we made some mistakes. We had it 21 all in that fourth game and then they made a couple of blocks and the last game we got down 8-2 but we really fought

Clear Creek comes up short

Clear Creek fell down early only to see Megan Pendergast and Madline Gaffney lead a late charge but it wasn't enough as Amarillo wins game five 15-10 and will now try to become the first 5A team in history to win three straight state titles.

This was the best performance in years by a Houston team and had they not had some ball control issues in game five, they could easily have won this one.

Amarillo and Clear Creek are going five

Torri Campbell had two huge blocks down the stretch for Amarillo, which takes game four 25-22 to force a fifth game in the 5A state semifinal.

Clear Creek had leads late on big kills by Gaffney but Amarillo kept fighting back.

Both teams look very confident as they are getting final instructions from their coaches.

Clear Creek takes a 2-1 lead

Clear Creek is one game away from advancing to the state finals. It was Megan Pendergast attacking from everywhere and Pendergast and Madeline Gaffney on the stuff block to close out the game.

Creek looks very confident at this point and Amarillo seems to be on their heels a bit.

Creek trails in game two

Amarillo's two seniors middle, Torri Campbell and Aryn Bohannon took control down the stretch and Amarillo takes game two 25-20 to tie the 5A state semifinal match 1-1.

Clear Creek has not backed down from the Sandies. This one could go five.

Clear Creek takes game one

Clear Creek players are showing no nerves for their first appearance at state. They are very much the team in charge at the moment and when Madeline Gaffney buries the quick set they take game one 25-19 form the defending champs.
