Clear Creek survives scare

Stratford gave the state's #3 team all they could handle, but in the end Clear Creek had too much Madeline Gaffney and Megan Pendergast and advanced to the Region 3 finals with a 24-26, 25-16, 21-25, 25-12, 15-11 win.

Gaffney had 22 kills and Pendergast 15 for Clear Creek. Jennifer Jordan had 17 and Mary Ellen Luck added 10 for Stratford.

Clear Creek will meet Fort Bend Travis Saturday afternoon for a berth in the state tournament. Travis knocked off Katy 25-20, 25-17, 28-26 as Ashley Bannister had 16 kills, and Taylor Szypulski added 14 kills.

Sandra Adeleye (11 kills) and Matte Haack (9 kills) led Katy in the loss.
