Comments from the Clear Creek-Amarillo match

Obviously they've been here before and we have not. I don't know exactly how many of their girls have been here before, but some of them have for sure. Being back-to-back state champs they have some experience in that situation. Bottom line is we made some mistakes. We had it 21 all in that fourth game and then they made a couple of blocks and the last game we got down 8-2 but we really fought back. And then they just made a few more plays than us at the end. But I couldn't be prouder of this group. We could easily have gotten down in that last game an gotten beat 15-4 or something but we didn't stop.

(On Amarillo middle Torri Campbell) That girl is the best hitter we have played all year. She's incredible. Not only can she hit, but she can avoid the block. She's a very smart hitter. She's not always going up there to wail on the ball, even as hard as she hits. She hits around the block. She hits the open part of the defense. She's smart. She was hitting away from (Creek libero) Haley after game one. You noticed at the beginning of the match they were hitting balls in the direction of Haley and over the last three games they were hitting almost no balls on her side of the court. So they made adjustments that obviously helped them out.

All we talked about before this match was that we were going to come out aggressive. We were not going to come out tentative. We have to serve aggressive against teams of this caliber. They've got amazing ball control on that team. Serves that we would have an ace on other teams they would somehow get up and get a decent swing on, even from the back row.

To me these two teams are very evenly matched. If we play them 10 times I think we win five and they win five. At Pearland it went down to the third game 27-25 and this one went to the fifth game. I think we're about as evenly matched as can be. They just made a few more plays at the end than we did.

I always thought we could win the game. Even when we they had match point I thought we could come back. This group played really well. We played out hearts out. They just got a few more breaks than we did.

We weren't nervous. We came here to not be tense and worried. We were dancing around during warmups. We knew we had top play loose

I think it was the breaks. They just made a few more plays than we did. Our passing shut down at the end of the game and you can't win games if you can't pass.
