Vista Murrieta Softball Standouts Make College Choices

Vista Murrieta softball standouts and twin sisters Taylor and Tatum Edwards will attend Nebraska after they graduate in two years, Broncos coach Dan Torres said Tuesday.

Torres also said Aly Fascetti, who will be a junior in the fall, will attend Cal State Fullerton.

Taylor Edwards, a catcher, led the team this past season with a .544 batting average with six home runs and 40 runs batted in. She was chosen the Southwestern League most valuable player and to the Division 2 first team.

Tatum Edwards, a pitcher and outfielder, compiled a 14-3 record with a 0.93 earned run average and had 146 strikeouts in 104 innings. She led the team with eight home runs. She was selected the state freshman player of the year in 2007.

Torres said the sisters had scholarship offers from several of the nation's elite colleges, but their choice ultimately came down to Nebraska, UCLA and Washington.

Fascetti had a breakthrough junior season, splitting pitching duties with Edwards for most of the season. The tall, hard-throwing right-hander went 9-3 with a 1.92 earned run average and 75 strikeouts.

Torres said Fascetti also was considering UNLV.
