WELCOME TO HS GAMETIME

Out at a game and see a great play? Know of a pregame ritual that gets a team fired up? Got a friend or player who works hard on and off the field?

This is the place for you, an open market focusing in the distribution of stories, pictures and videos about New Orleans-area high school sports.

Yes, there is finally a place for more the more than 90 schools in and around New Orleans to get out information about themselves.

The idea of this new site is to combine traditional news-gathering techniques and combine it with consumer generated information.

It will work like this ─ I’ll take care of the old-school reporting, writing human interest, trend and news stories about local high school sports.

You the reader will be taking care of the consumer generated part. In other words, if you know how the volleyball team or cross-country team or any other school sports team did, you can post it on your school’s page.

Or say you’re at the school’s pep rally for Friday night’s game and you take pictures. Guess what? They can go on your school’s page on hasgametime.com.

What if you’ve got a video of Little Suzie destroying the field in the 200-meter freestyle swim? Yep, you also can post that.

The site is for the local high school sports fan, as well as the high school athlete. Think of it as a hybrid between what TV stations can do on their Web sites and what newspapers can do in the hard copy.

It’s the best of both worlds, and the public is the beneficiary.

Here’s what you need to do: Sign up on the front page. Then begin posting using the links in the ‘My Lockerroom’ box.

It’s that simple.

If you have any other questions or, better yet, a story idea, feel free to email either Bradley Handwerger or Tom Planchet at bhandwerger@wwltv.com or tplanchet@wwltv.com, respectively. You can also call in any story idea to 504-529-6351.
