NATIONAL RANKINGS: Sept. 17-23

How subjective are high school polls, let alone polls period? I'll tell you. River Ridge school John Curtis moved up in one national poll, while falling hard in another. And the thing is, Curtis is 3-0 on the year.

More interestingly, one national poll has only Curtis ranked, while the other one has two other Louisiana teams ranked ahead of the Patriots.

I'm not going to lie - At this point, I'm a little confused over the criteria of these polls. (more) ...

OK, here we go, illustrating the strangeness that are polls.

In the USA Today poll, Curtis moved up six spots to No. 9 after its 24-12 win over Salmen.

But, and here's the contradiction, the Patriots failed to gain in the MaxPreps.com poll, instead falling 22 spots.

What?

Yeah, I have no idea.

Further mind-boggling was the state top 25 poll. Apparently winning games isn't enough. Or maybe you just need to win games over good opponents by decent margins.

Regardless, it's still nice to be recognized.
