WEEKLY PICKS: Sept. 7-8
OK, so I wasn't exactly stellar in my picks last week. Never fear, as the coaches like to say, it's a long season, and I'm taking it one week at a time. Of course, the only responder last week - Christopher Mire - should only hope his second week went as good as his first. Mr. Mire scorched the field (me), going 9-1 for the week, missing only the Northshore-Salmen game. (more) ...
I, on the other hand, went 6-4. At least I’m above .500 for the year. That’s not exactly saying much after one week.
Anyway, I hope I can get better response for week two and beyond. Let’s see how y’all stack up this week against me. Have picks into bhandwerger@wwltv.com by Friday at 7 p.m. Also, make sure you leave a name (first initial and full last name, or full first name and last first initial).
Need an incentive? The top 5 will get their names put in this wonderful space. Come on. Does it get any better than that? (Don’t answer.)
For week two, Bradley Handwerger selects:
(home teams in bold, unless at a neutral field, i.e. Gormley, Memtsas, Yenni, Behrman)
Slidell 14, Salmen 10
Curtis 24, East St. John 7
Franklinton 17, Covington 3
Mandeville 24, West Jefferson 12
Fontainebleau 20, Jesuit 17
Shaw 27, St. Paul’s 13
Ehret 21, Independence 17
St. Augustine 10, Bonnabel 7
Holy Cross 24, Brother Martin 21
Game o' the week:
Destrehan 24, St. James 10
Talking with both coaches won't get you very far. St. James' Rick Gaille says his team must play a perfect game to win. Ditto Destrehan's Steven Robicheaux. So, will two perfect games equal a tie? Nah. Destrehan, in the end, is just too loaded, with four major college Football Championship Division (formerly Division I-A) recruits. Oh, and the defense is pretty salty, too.
