NATIONAL POLLS (Oct. 23): Shaw creeps back up; Destrehan makes big jump

It took an interception in the end zone with about a minute left, but Destrehan was able to escape an upset bid by East St. John. The Wildcats reward? Moving up -- waaaaaay up -- in the MaxPreps.com national poll.

Destrehan jumped 33 spots to get to No. 66 this week. But that's not nearly the largest jump or fall by an in-state school this week. No, that lovely title belongs to Acadiana. Thanks to a 46-36 loss to Comeaux, the great people who do the polls dropped Acadiana 115 spots.

It's not even in the top 100 anymore (obviously). Acadiana is now No. 176 in the great United States of America. (more...)

Shaw still leads teams from the metro area, and West Monroe leads teams from the state. But I'm still shocked Curtis nor St. James have crept into the top 100. Heck, nary a school other than Shaw or Destrehan from the area are sniffing the top 100.

And then you find the state poll on MaxPreps, and teams from WWL's viewing/coverage area own it. Of the top 25, 10 schools made it, plus another three are receiving votes, per say.

It's nice to see that Vandy can play a tough game against Shaw, show pride and quality play in the loss, and fall only one spot. Ditto to East St. John, which dropped only three places after a tough loss to Destrehan.
