NATIONAL RANKINGS (Oct. 9-15): Still no love for Louisiana; Shaw wins, but loses votes

At least Shaw can say it's still the highest nationally ranked team in Louisiana. The Eagles are No. 32 this week in the latest MaxPreps.com poll, down six spots from their previous high a week ago.

Now, don't get me wrong. I think if you're Shaw, or any team for that matter, it's nice to see your effort recognized nationally in a poll. But to maul a previously undefeated team -- as Shaw did, beating Morgan City 42-9 -- you would expect to find some more loving. Instead, Shaw got the cold shoulder.

And so too, actually, did Louisiana. West Monroe blasts Airline 49-6 and stays pat in the poll. Acadiana beats Pineville 31-28 and fell 15 spots. Bastrop destroys Franklin Parish 54-14 and falls three places. Only Destrehan, whiched picked up a hard-earned 31-24 double overtime win over Hahnville, moved up, gaining 37 places (more) ...

I just find it kind of interesting, and wonder how these folks decide who gets ranked where. I'm going to find out, and when I do, I'll let you know.

As for the state rankings, nothing really new. A whole cluster of WWL coverage-area teams sit between 15 and 25 in the top 25. Yes, naturally Shaw leads this one. The big news, really, is that Vandebilt continues its move up, going all the way to No. 15 this week. Another big win versus Cox this week and it could set up a top 10 matchup with Shaw on Oct. 19.

And as has been true since Curtis lost to Longview, no state teams are ranked in the USA Today national top 25 or the regional top 10.

Regarding Shaw dropping six spots, I sent an e-mail to
the Cheif Editor to try to get an explanation for how they rank the teams. GO EAGLES!!

They lost votes because they have Shaw losing 42-7. If that is incorrect someone should tell the people to correct it.
