Wild games, wild finishes

What a Friday night! This was without a doubt the night with the most exciting games of the season. It probably helped that they meant something too, with most teams in the meat of their district schedules.

What a Friday night! This was without a doubt the night with the most exciting games of the season. It probably helped that they meant something too, with most teams in the meat of their district schedules.

In 4A, Shaw defeated Vandebilt on the road, but after racing to a big early lead, the Eagles had to hold off the offensive-minded Terriers who put more points on the board by far than any opponent Shaw has faced this season. Don’t be surprised to see these two meet again this year.

In a key Catholic League matchup, Brother Martin took a 17-6 lead over Jesuit only to see the Jays score 19 straight points to grab the win and make a big move to stay in the district race.

Perhaps no game was wilder than Ellender and Belle Chasse in 4A. The game see-sawed most of the way with Ellender converting a two-point play in overtime for a 41-40 victory.

Not to be outdone, Newman took a 48-42 overtime win over Riverside after the Rebels rallied from a big early deficit.

And finally, Destrehan won its third straight tight game, 31-28 over East St. John.
