Those who did the seeding in the prep football playoffs knew what they were doing.
Actually, I think it’s a computer-generated points system; however, four of the five top seeds are in the finals. There also are two number twos and two number threes. Not bad.
Ten games left, and that means 10 picks left before the finals. There are some dream matchups, and there are some "nobody though they'd still be alive" teams out there.
And then there's the Pick 'em standings. Only three people picked a week ago – shame on you loyal, or not so loyal – readers. Let's get a full list of pickers this week. I'm counting on you to go into the finals in style.
I went 8-2, while Ron Held and Jerome Bo
Hey there loyal readers. With football winding down, that means basketball and soccer are getting going.
I'm putting another call out to my loyal readers, as well as those new to the site. Looking to become a citizen journalist? Join the site and tell everyone about how your team did that day.
You can write the story, you can add the info and you can put in a picture. And that means you can get your byline on a story.

Welcome back from Thanksgiving break. Hope you stuffed yourself with turkey and dressing and everything else.
While you were gone, football went from the top eight teams in each division to the top four, and basketball continues to heat up. There's soccer, as well.
As I requested not too long ago, please send in any information you can on basketball - like schedules and results - as soon
Like a good team that went through a tough stretch in the middle of the season, SuperWebGirl is back and better than ever. She showed all of us here on the Handy Blog how to pick.
That's right, SuperWebGirl went 9-1 in her second-round playoff picks. The next closest person – PrepGuru – went 7-3. Go SuperWebGirl!
The week was tough last week. This one will be tougher. Who's on board to get a perfect week? I know you can do it.
Boy, talk about your bracket-buster. In 5A seeds 2, 3, 4 and 5 are done. Rummel is 6th and it faces a tough challenge against Hahnville Saturday. Ehret is 7th and still alive and the 8th seed (Higgins) is gone.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. I hope that's the way y'all feel about my pick 'em, because we're back, and I've missed y'all.
Anyway…catching up from the final week of the regular season, Professor was the big winner, finishing the year 48-12 for an impressive 80 percent correct rate. Ron Held and Prep Guru tied for second at 74.3 percent, and I was a distant third at 71 percent.
But this is a new season, as the

Holy Cross seniors Brandon Moore and Matty Ott will sign national letters of intent Wednesday to play their respective sports on the college level.
Moore committed less than a month ago to play basketball at the University of Arkansas. On Wednesday, he'll make it official. Rated as the No. 39-ranked player by Rivals.com, Moore led Holy Cross in rebounds and blocked shots a season ago as the Tigers re

Joshua James burst through the middle of Mandeville's offensive line and wheeled past every Jesuit defender in the vicinity.
Fifty-two yards later, he was in the end zone, Mandeville owned a 31-21 lead and Jesuit's chances of a second-round playoff berth were all but gone. (more...)
I know there is no perfect system and that this method has been around for some time, but there just seems to be some inequities in how home teams are chosen for the second round of the playoffs.
A great day of volleyball has finally come to an end. The first three matches went 3-0 to the victor (Northlake Christian, Newman, Notre Dame). The fourth match was easily the best of the day, as Cabrini won in four of the closest games you'll see.
And then there's the Mount Carmel-St. Joseph's show down. Though St. Joe's won 3-0, the atmosphere was amazing and the match was closer than the scoreline reads.
That's it for me an
Live, from Kenner, La., and the Pontchartrain Center, it's the LHSAA volleyball regionals.
Welcome back. We missed you. I hope we can provide you with some tantalizing information today.

Sorry I'm late to the game. Life is busy these days. I hope you can forgive me. But starting today - right now actually - I'll be updating from the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner all day and night. (more...)

This week has been a little hectic, folks. But just a little update here. I'm going to resume the weekly pick 'em next week. 10 games, 10 picks, hopefully 10 right picks. Good luck.
The regionals for the state volleyball tournament are set. Beginning Wednesday, you can see all the volleyball you can possibly want by going to Kenner's Pontchartrain Center.
There are some intriguing matchups that involve local teams. In Division I, St. Scholastica will look to continue its tear this season against fellow northshore school Fontainebleau.

East St. John might be the best 6-4 team in the state. And finally, I'm not the only one who believes that. The sports writers who vote finally moved it into the Class 5A top 10 at No. 10.
Holy Cross also moved into the polls, also at No. 10 in 4A. Not much else stands out. The real rankings that matter were released Sunday. That would be the top 32 teams.
But what I like about these polls is that there's human evaluation. Comp

Usually, I wait until Wednesday to put up the picks. And I will again this, for this week's games. But today, we're playing high school football postseason roulette.
Guess the semifinalists in each division. The winner gets, oh, I don't know, a meal on me? Whoever gets the most semifinalsts correct wins. It's that simple.
Spin the wheel. A free meal could be in your future. Have semifinal
The playoff brackets came out yesterday, but that doesn't totally explain how or give you a view of exactly how close some of the teams were in their ratings/rankings.
While I've been using Ken Ramsey's power ratings for the entire season, those are unofficial. If there's a difference, it's usually one place for each team.
Here are the official Louisiana High School Athletic Association ratings. Enjoy. >> Continue reading: FINAL POWER RATINGS:

There are a few things that leap out in the postseason seedings for prep football that were released Sunday.
The strength of the district Destrehan plays in probably gave them the edge over West Monroe in the power ratings, though West Monroe is surprisingly only third. (more...)

Brother Martin - an upset winner over Rummel, throwing the Catholic League into three-way tie.
Ben Franklin - a big winner and a first-time ever playoff participant.
St. Paul - finishes off an impressive unbeaten district season.
Jay Pittman isn't worried that heading into Brother Martin's District 10-5A game against Rummel, leading tailback Dalton Hilliard Jr. isn't 100 percent after spraining his ankle a week ago against St. Augustine.
First of all, he's close enough to full speed that Pittman said he'll play with no problem.
Secondly, in Hilliard's absence a week ago, Pittman found more than an average solution. Out went Hilliard, in came freshman D
