Some thoughts on the rankings

There are a few things that leap out in the postseason seedings for prep football that were released Sunday.

The strength of the district Destrehan plays in probably gave them the edge over West Monroe in the power ratings, though West Monroe is surprisingly only third. (more...)

Destrehan played in an ultra tough district that includes playoff teams Hahnville, East St. John and Dutchtown.

Shaw and Bastrop seem to be the class of 4A, but Shaw showed some vulnerability against Cox, who could surprise some. Meanwhile Franklinton’s schedule could be why they are only number 7, but expect them to go pretty far.

There isn’t any doubt that Curtis’ strong pre-district schedule, which includes several 5A teams, helped them finish ahead of St. James, despite a head up loss in week 9.

In Class 1A, South Plaquemines is only third. Now I haven’t seen the top two teams in 1A – Cedar Creek and Oak Grove – and South Plaquemines hasn’t been tested since earl in the year, but I just get the feeling they could be crossing the Crescent City Connection for a title game in December.

How is Holy Cross ranked higher than Franklinton when Franklinton beat them?

From Bradley: Franklinton Fan, as crazy as that seems, especially since Franklinton beat Holy Cross so close to the end of the regular season, it has to do with power points. And power points have to do with strength of schedule. Holy Cross was rewarded for a tougher schedule than Franklinton's. It's certainly one of the downsides to using this system. But it's the best the state has right now.
