Jena 6's Bell looking to play football at Carroll
Mychal Bell, one of the members of the Jena 6 group has decided he wants a fresh start, and high school football is part of that.
The LHSAA has released its brackets for the girls soccer playoffs.
And former St. James standout Corey Webster turns to his upbringing to help inspire him during tough times.
Bell, who was the first of the Jena 6 members to go to trial, wants to play football at Carroll High in Monroe. He has been registered and attending classes there "two or three weeks."
I don't think this is such a bad deal. The youngster has been grilled in public opinion and just wants to move on. I say, if he follows through with his plea agreement, which places him with the Office of Youth Development, according to the story, then let him move on.
The LHSAA released the brackets for the girls state soccer tournament today. Bi-regional round is Friday, with the regionals set for Ash Wednesday. Of the 82 playoff bound teams, 27 reside in the New Orleans area. In other words, 33 percent of the playoff teams have a New Orleans connection. That's not bad.
Corey Webster, the former LSU and St. James standout who is now with the New York Giants, could have thrown in the towel in the middle of this season when he was benched. But he didn't, and he learned from his mother, a teacher at St. James, the value of persevering and self-motivation. It paid off, as Webster and the Giants are one win away from winning the Super Bowl.
Some more fallout from the strange Atlanta case involved a former football coach and some lewd pictures of a school administrator. The Clayton County school district is looking into stricter online policies. This one is just crazy. Don't people know better?
