This just in: No vote on football this year

Posted by bhandwerger | 3:28 PM

I just talked with Rick Gaille, St. James' head coach and athletics director, and he told me the football legislation most noteworthy - if you go to the dome twice and win, you move up; divisions of eight teams instead of classes; you can elect to play in the super division if you'd like - will go to committee instead of being voted on.

This means that, for now, this coming fall will go the same way this past fall did - power ratings will determine the playoffs, classes 1A-5A will remain and districts will remain as they are now.

Gaille said that what will happen is the committee will discuss the items and hammer out how they should work. Then, once reclassification is finished in October, LHSAA officials will show the coaches and AD's what the postseason would look like if the legislation is passed.

I'll have more on this and what's being discussed tomorrow. And then I'll have what has been passed after the meetings are finished.
