Bastrop's Mackey 'Red Zone Player of the Year'
We knew Randall Mackey was good. Now we just have more confirmation.
Two local girls soccer teams are weaving their way through the state playoffs.
And the basketball seedings have helped at least one state team.
Randall Mackey was the MOP of the Class 4A state championship game, leading Bastrop to a 15-0 record and back-to-back titles. Now he is the Red Zone Player of the Year.
Dominican is one win away from the girls Division I soccer title game after a quarterfinal win over St. Joseph's. It won 1-0 on a goal 15 minutes in.
And Vandebilt's girls team is in the finals, as Division II has only four playoff games. The Lady Terriers beat DeRidder 4-0, earning their first finals berth since 2006.
Then there's basketball, which in January was one of the sports that the general assembly decided to allow coaches to seed the playoffs. That's helping St. Thomas More's girls team escape playing top-seeded Ouachita.
