Former Hoover High coach had too much power

Posted by bhandwerger | 10:45 AM

Maybe it was MTV's two-year "documentary" of Hoover High's football program, or maybe it was the larger-than-life personality of former head coach Rush Propst, but people can't seem to get enough of the guy and the program he built.

Or, in this area, maybe it's because Curtis defeated Propst's Hoover team on TV and when the Bucs were nationally ranked and regarded as one of the top teams.

Regardless of why people care, they do. And the Birmingham News wrote a good story detailing how Propst got power and what that meant. They also put all of the interviews for the story online. It's all very interesting, and makes you wonder when high school football finally will become the like college football, if it hasn't already.

In other news, St. Aug's Purple Knights kept Carencro from making history, and, in so doing, kept alive their hopes of a Class 5A title fewer than three years after the school was ravaged by Katrina.

And finally, did you know archery is a sanctioned high school sport in some places? Neither did I. Regardless, Caddo Magnet won the state championship this year.
