Wrestling Tournament: Finals Edition

Here's how we stand heading into the finals:'
Division I - Jesuit leads Catholic by nine points (210-201) and Brother Martin by 24 points (210-186). Jesuit has two finalists, Catholic six and Brother Martin six. For BM to win, it will need wins in every event. For Catholic to win, it must win two more finals than Jesuit. And for Jesuit, it must have Catholic win only one more final than it does.
Division II - Northside has 216.5 to Shaw's 203. But Shaw has nine finalists and Northside has five. For Shaw to win, it will need to win at least five of its finals and have Northside lose a few of its.
Division III - Brusly is up by 105 points. No one will catch it.
(10:11 p.m.)
Well, we're all but done here at the Pontchartrain Center. The 285-pounders are in progress, but their finishes are meaningless. Brusly owned Division III, Northside won Division II and Catholic became the first team outside of NOLA to win a D-I title since 1987. That's a long time.
Hope you had a good night. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
(9:38 p.m.)
More bad news for New Orleans schools. Northside officially has beaten Shaw, despite having four fewer wrestlers in the finals. The problem for Shaw came with the number of wrestlers in the tournament.
The Eagles had all nine guys qualify for the finals, so it was win or no big points. For Northside, it took the wrestleback route and won by taking four third-place finishes. Those points helped push Northside past Shaw, not to mention the four first-place finishes it took.
(8:50 p.m.)
It's officially over. Rummel couldn't help out Jesuit. Catholic's Trent Fresina beat Rummel's Bernie Dupuy 6-4 in a match that came down to the last seconds. The win gave Catholic the points it needed to pass up Jesuit.
this marks the first time since 1987 that neither Jesuit nor Brother Martin own outright or have a piece of the title.
(8:31 p.m.)
So, Jesuit still has life. Comeaux's Zachary Saucier outpointed Catholic's Ben Carroll 6-4 in overtime in the 145-pound final. Jesuit is still tied with Catholic with two Bears' finals left.
(8 p.m.)
It's all but over for Jesuit. Brother Martin made it so. The Crusaders' Andrew Casadaban finished off Jesuit's finalists when he outpointed Michael Gruezke. Catholic needs a win in just one of its final three matches.
Catholic is all but assured of the title, and Jesuit is all but assured of second place.
(7:45 p.m.)
Jesuit owes Rummel some food and soft drinks right now. Rummel's Johnny Calcote pinned Catholic's Beau Town to keep the Bears and Blue Jays tied.
(7:33 p.m.)
Holy Cross' Tim Scanlan fended off Shaw's Stefen Valencia for the 125-pound Division II title. He showed more emotion than just about anyone who has won today.
And Nick Shield of Brother Martin just became a three-time champion in wrestling.
(7:15 p.m.)
Unless something changes, Catholic will have fended off Jesuit despite the Blue Jays doing well in the wrestlebacks. Jesuit has lost its only final, while Catholic is 2-for-2 with four left.
Shaw is now 2-1 with Blaise Pertuit winning 119 pounds and Raymond Savoy winning 112 pounds.
(7:00 p.m.)
Bad news for Jesuit. Brother Martin's Tyler Richardson didn't pull through. Catholic's Blake Savoie won the 112-pound title, and cut Jesuit's margin for error painfully thin.
(6:51 p.m.)
After the 103's, Jesuit has only one man left. Jeffrey Vitenas lost for Jesuit. Also, in Division II, Shaw's Brandon Surrency lost.
(6 p.m.)
I'll say it again, even though I said it last night. This whole thing reminds me of the Karate Kid, down to the announcer. I believe it's Kenny Trahan, but he definitely sounds like the Ka. Kid announcer.
And now, as they're announcing the 103-pound wrestlers, the Catholic crowd booed the Jesuit guy. Classy.
