Fishermen help raise money for paralyzed Ponchatoula player

I have chronicled the story of Ponchatoula's Bryce McKinney on this site over the past couple of months.

He arrived home in the middle of February and has been going through rehabilitation ever since.

But on March 1, the town of Ponchatoula held a fundraising event downtown and by all accounts, it was a success.

(Continued)

It was at that event that several spots on fishing charters were raffled off. Well, those who picked up the fishing trips have gone on their voyages and the tally also has been counted as to how much money was collected.

If you remember (and here, I'll help you), the medical costs for the McKinney family are high and rising. Any help for them has been a blessing. The fundraiser brought in tens of thousands of dollars for the McKinney's.

Donations are still being taken, and they can be sent to First Guaranty Bank. Address to the Bryce McKinney Fund, P.O. Box 398, Ponchatoula, LA, 70454. You also can call (985) 386-2000 or toll free at (888) 375-3093.

Here's follow up to the great Evangel Bat Heist. It didn't work.Evangel won its playoff game despite playing with new bats and the emotional toll of knowing your locker room has been broken into.

--------

It has been years since John Curtis Christian lost a postseason softball game. Strike that, it has been less than a day now. After rolling through the playoffs for nearly half a decade, the Lady Patriots' streak is done thanks to Menard.

--------

I've seen big scores before. But this is kind of absurd. Vandebilt Catholic took down Edna Karr 33-0 in opening round softball action.

Tell me, what is acceptable and what isn't? When do you call off the batters, or do you? I know there's a mercy rule, but should it be looked at again?
