Lafayette getting the royal treatment
Lafayette's boys won the class 5A state title about a month ago. The back-patting and the congratulations have yet to end, though. It's not like Lafayette is a small town, either. According to census.gov, as of 2006, Lafayette boasted a population of a little more than 114,000 people.
Can you imagine this happening for Helen Cox, which also won a state championship?
Speaking of Helen Cox, I'd be remiss if I didn't pass along that Greg Monroe, he of the Parade All-America, first team all-state, and Georgetown signee, is Louisiana's Mr. Basketball.
Over in Alexandria, my man Will Tubbs writes about a senior who is taking one for her team, becoming the team's catcher after rolling as its ace pitcher a year ago. You don't find high school athletes like this much anymore. Too much ESPN and SportsCenter and trying to be like Terrell Owens and such. This girl is something special.
And then there's the bizarre story from Monroe about how West Monroe can't get any love for its open boys basketball coaching position. I've got to think West Monroe is one of the better jobs up in that portion of the state, but a month after the position became available, school officials can't get anyone to apply.
Finally, a story in the Washington Post plays off of the Nationals' new stadium and asks which high school fields are special in the D.C. area.
That made me think, which facilities in the New Orleans area is considered special? Which ones are good? Which are the worst? Comment below. Let me know what you think. Click for poll
