Split decision on baseball seeding

The big boys haven't been seeded yet - 3A, 4A and 5A get announced Wednesday and on April 29 - but there's a mixed decision on whether the seeding went well for classes 2A, 1A, B and C.

It all depends on who you talk with to determine whether it went well. This is the first year baseball's postseason will be seeded by coaches voting on it themselves - no regional seeding, no power poll.

Only power plays by coaches and decisions made in a smoke-filled back room. OK, maybe it's not like 1950s Chicago politics.

According to Kevin Foote of The Daily Advertiser, coaches aren't happy. Too many low seeds for teams, meaning too many overrated seeds for other teams.

But then there's Alexandria Town Talk columnist Bret H. McCormick. He thinks the coaches got it right , and, in fact, got it better than any ratings system could have done.

And in the feel-good story of the day, The Baton Rouge Advocate has a story about a high school gymnast who isn't taking the normal route to college. Instead, he's heading to West Point , a.k.a. the United States Military Academy, where he plans on becoming a medic for the military. He'll also continue competing for the gymnastics team.
