State legislature looking for higher academic, athletic standards
Here's something local athletes and fans and schools need to pay attention to in the current session of the state legislature. Lafayette Representative Rickey Hardy wants to make a 2.0 GPA the minimum to be eligible to play sports.
That represents only a .5 tick up in GPA, and he said, 1.5 GPA is a D and he's trying to get raise the reputation of the state. Chrissy Smith of the Bogalusa Daily News is on top of it.

In baseball, people start talking about a lot of walks when it happens, oh, six or seven times in a game. Well, in Curtis' game against Riverside, six or seven was passed by a mile. The Patriots took full advantage.

With all the events possible to participate in in track and field, you need a big team. But I don't think anybody ever imagined having nearly 100 athletes on a high school track and field team. That's just what's going on at Benton High.

WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL THAT KIDS NEED A 2.0 GPA.
I HAD TO HAVE IT WHEN I PLAYED SPORTD IN THE 60'S & EARLY 70'S. THEY LOWERED THE STANDARDS AFTER INTERGRATION.
IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEONE STEP TO THE PLATE WITH SOMETHING BESIDES A BASEBALL BAT AND SAY YOU DON'T MAKE THE GRADE HOME PLATE IS OFF LIMITS....KUDOS.
