When high schools act like colleges...
So, moving through my daily assortment of page views of state newspapers, I came across this little gem. (Continued...)
West Monroe 1) has season-ticket holders and 2) has given these holders a deadline to pick the tickets up.
Now, maybe I've just been living under a rock these last couple of years or decades, but I'm fairly certain my high school did not do season-ticket packages for football. If you were an adult, you paid $5 every time you came a home game. If you were student, you got in free.
And if you were an opponent, we turned you upside down and took whatever fell out of your pockets. OK, that didn't happen.
Regardless, when did high schools start acting like colleges in regards to its fans and start charging season-ticket packages? Is it a way to expedite the process on Friday nights?
The thing I don't get about this, at least in West Monroe's case, is that if the tickets aren't picked up by Friday, they'll go sale to the general public soon thereafter.
Am I mistaken or does the season not start until, you know, late August?

Franklinton's baseball team is following in lock-step with the football team, advancing through the playoffs. The team is in the second round, to be played today at West Ouachita.

And finally, Atlanta high schools are going the way of artificial turf, kind of like Yenni and Memtsas already are.
Tad Gormley, which sees as many games if not more than Yenni and Memtsas, is still natural turf. When I ran the Crescent City Classic, the finishing party was on the field at the Tad. And I've got to tell you, despite it having been several months since football was played on it and at least a month since soccer was there, the field wasn't in great shape.
It made me think that sooner rather than later, Tad Gormley needs to go to artificial turf.
Let's start the debate - do you like high schools playing on artificial turf? Do you even like artificial turf?

Brad, you do a great job on the HS coverage. I really enjoy reading all your articles. Its about time someone has started putting together something decent on High Schools. I told Kevin a while back he should suggest having something on High Schools. He told me I was behind the times, plus calling me "gramps."
By the way, Brother Martin sells season tickets to football games, but doesn't offer them to parents or whomever until school opens in late August. At least thats the way it was in mid tolate 80's and up through my youngest graduating in '02. Keep up the good work. Mr. Held
