Jesuit, Mandeville, Ponchatoula reach 5A quarters
The big news out of Monday's Class 5A regional round was that of the eight local schools with an opportunity to move into the quarterfinals, Brother Martin didn't make it through. (Continued...)
The Crusaders had a great season, winning their first district title in more than a decade. They beat Jesuit two out of three times and appeared a strong candidate to move into the state tournament portion of the playoffs.
It wasn't to be as they lost to Dutchtown 6-3.
But Jesuit did push through , continuing its late-season resurgence after an up-and-down start to the year. Tim Parenton, in his first year as Jesuit's skipper, has obviously figured his team out now.
And Mandeville pulled off the upset of the 5A postseason thus far, knocking out No. 1seed West Monroe on the road. It scored five early runs to set the tone for the game and move into the quarters.
Then there's Ponchatoula, pushing through to the quarters after years of almost getting there.
Meanwhile, Slidell couldn't keep a promising season going, its year ending in Baton Rouge.

Finally, in 4A track, O. Perry Walker came through with the state title. McDonogh 35 picked up the bronze medal.
